Follow the team on their journey to PyeongChang 2018:

Our Story

It all began when Brazil’s first ever Bobsleigh Team made their world debut at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. All over the world, people stopped to watch “The Frozen Bananas”, a nickname given to the team for their bright yellow sled and race suits. Many spectators wondered, “What is a tropical country doing here?” The Brazilians may not have been contenders for a podium finish, but they did share their culture and enthusiasm with the world as they raced, sang and danced, epitomizing the true meaning and spirit of the Olympics.
Cristiano was a member of the original “Frozen Banana” team, and it changed his life. He was recruited to the Brazilian Bobsleigh Team in 2001 when he was ranked as the #3 decathlete in Brazil. Cristiano has had great success throughout his athletic career in both track & field and bobsleigh, which can been seen by his involvement in Bobsleigh at four Olympic Games as both an athlete and as a coach. In addition to representing Brazil, he also competed for Team Canada for several years before changing his focus and pursuing his passion by coaching.
Heather joined the sport of Bobsleigh in 2008 after a very successful career in track & field at the University of Western Ontario, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Heather competed for Canada in Bobsleigh for four years and had her sights set on competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. Unfortunately, Heather suffered an injury that kept her out of the sport for two years, missing her chance to qualify for the Sochi Olympics. She is fully recovered, highly motivated and excited to show the world that she is a force to be reckoned with on the Bobsleigh track.
As a team, Cristiano and Heather coached the Brazilian Bobsleigh Team in the winter of 2013, enabling them to qualify two teams for the 2014 Winter Olympics, including the first two-woman team from Brazil. After their marriage in Brazil on August 28, 2014, Cristiano and Heather set new goals to make history once again. Their dream is to race in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, as the world’s first married couple to compete in the same Olympics, for the same country, in the sport of Bobsleigh. In order to accomplish this goal, they each have to qualify in their respective categories. Cristiano came out of retirement to join Heather so they can pursue their dream together.
Cristiano and Heather began building their team in the fall of 2014, giving it the name: “TeamPaes Brasil Bob”. They are ready to dedicate their lives, putting everything else on hold, for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Heather and Cristiano’s combined experience on the bobsleigh track and as coaches, and Cristiano’s expertise as a trainer will greatly benefit their team in terms of strategy, organization, teamwork and planning. Their perseverance, passion, dedication and work ethic will be invaluable assets along their journey. Cristiano and Heather know what it takes to get to the Olympics, and they are ready to start now!
